Kwasniewski

It's published ... but why is it so important?

Peter Kwasniewski's The Once and Future Roman Rite is hot off the 'Tan' presses. May I  concisely run through why this is such an important book.

Fashions change in all fields of thought. And, since the 1960s, lots of changes have happened in Liturgy.

But Liturgy, for the believer and her husband, is more important than practically everything else. Extremely important. Because it goes right to the heart of our lives as Christians.

And the changes made in the last half-century have not been gentle and slight. They have been massive and radical and ... yes, diabolical in origin. They have been accompanied by violent campaigns of disinformation ... a  lot of it concerned with what the Vatican Council did or didn't say, did or didn't command or forbid.

And this new and splendid book gathers up masses of the academic work done since the 1970s.

Now ... here's a weird thing. A very large percentage of this fine academic work has been done by laypeople, men and women. There is a very good reason for this ... the current F-word:

Fear.

Priests and ordained theologians can be bullied into silence. There are, believe me, some very nasty (and dishonest) people out there.

That is why it has been left to laypeople to work out, and to publish, the Truth.

Please believe me ... you need to force the publishers to run off thousands of copies of Kwasniewski.

Thankyou for the tip, Father: i shall buy the book. And yes, you are spot on regarding the input of the lay faithful in the stride for the Liturgy, and the reason why it is so.

There are no changes to the Liturgy at Vatican 11 that are valid,There are no changes to the dogmas of the church that are valid,There are no changes to the deposit of faith that are valid.Pope Johnxx111 made that clear. This was the first Synod of Synodality,It could affirm but not change,Pastoral not dogmatic.

Joseph, what does it mean to be valid? Specifically, what if nobody cares about somebody else's proclamation of what is or is not valid, and those proclamations are ignored or forgotten? This is not to say that there is no such thing as objective truth, but rather that issues which support the whole construct of something being valid, specifically authority, obedience and intellectual honesty, are so rejected or ignored by the vast majority as to render any claim of validity seem strange and pointless to modern man.

I got the Kindle version. It's excellent so far and expresses clearly that the liturgical changes from the 'restored' Holy Saturday of '51 and the Holy Week a few years later, plus the New Order of Mass (NOM) are inferior, defective products. This is not to say they are invalid, but the NOM particularly cannot really be considered a 'form' or variant of the Roman Rite. It's a job done by some arrogant academic priests. I think Yves Chiron or another pointed out that not one member of Concilium was ever a parish priest or curate. These men are mostly dead and gone to Judgement and those priests formed in the atmosphere of early enthusiasm are themselves usually only working as there are so few priests in the West, thanks to the New Springtime. Many have died. A fad of 50 years was made Holy Dogma. It might sound harsh, but barring a miracle, the thing to do is wait. Time will solve a major aspect of the problem. Hangers on like those seen on Pray Tell blog or a certain journalist who loves suing people in London courts, will not even be a side issue. They'll fall into line or take up gardening or golf.

Jewish Meal Prayer Bolded in this comparison of the Real Mass and the Revolutionary Rite

THE OFFERTORY

[The priest now says the Offertory for the Mass being offered. He then uncovers the chalice and in a lower voice says:]
[The Priest, standing at the altar, takes the paten with the bread and holds it slightly raised above the altar with both hands, saying in a low voice:]

The Offering of the Host

P: Receive, O Holy Father, almighty and eternal God, this spotless host, which I, Thine unworthy servant, offer unto Thee, my living and true God, for my countless sins, trespasses, and omissions; likewise for all here present, and for all faithful Christians, whether living or dead, that it may avail both me and them to salvation, unto life everlasting. Amen.

P: Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer you: fruit of the earth and work of human hands, it will become for us the bread of life.

[Then he places the paten with the bread on the corporal. If, however, the Offertory Chant is not sung, the Priest may speak these words aloud; at the end, the people may acclaim:]

R: Blessed be God for ever.
[The priest goes to the Epistle side and pours wine and water into the chalice.]
[The Deacon, or the Priest, pours wine and a little water into the chalice, saying quietly:]
P: O God, Who in creating man didst exalt his nature very wonderfully and yet more wonderfully didst establish it anew: by the mystery signified in the mingling of this water and wine, grant us to have part in the Godhead of Him Who hath vouchsafed to share our manhood, Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God; world without end. Amen.

The Offering of the Chalice

[At the middle of the altar, the priest says:]
[The Priest then takes the chalice and holds it slightly raised above the altar with both hands, saying in a low voice:]
P: We offer unto Thee, O Lord, the chalice of salvation, beseeching Thy clemency that it may ascend as a sweet odor before Thy divine majesty, for our own salvation, and for that of the whole world. Amen.

P:Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation, for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you: fruit of the vine and work of human hands it will become our spiritual drink. [Then he places the chalice on the corporal. If, however, the Offertory Chant is not sung, the Priest may speak these words aloud; at the end, the people may acclaim:]

R: Blessed be God for ever.

[After this, the Priest, bowing profoundly, says quietly:]
P: Humbled in mind, and contrite of heart, may we find favour with Thee, O Lord; and may the sacrifice we this day offer up be well pleasing to Thee, Who art our Lord and our God.

P: Come, Thou, the Sanctifier, God, almighty and everlasting: bless (✠) this sacrifice which is prepared for the glory of Thy holy name.

P: With humble spirit and contrite heart may we be accepted by you, O Lord, and may our sacrifice in your sight this day be pleasing to you, Lord God.

The revolutionaries blowed-up the Catholic Offertory - composed by Holy Catholic men who loved The Messias - and they substituted for it a meal prayer created by the Messias-Deniers.

This alone is enough to convince any man of good will that Vatican Two was a revolution that overturned the Catholic Order and established a Novus Ordo - a New Order.

Now, read again the Jewish Meal prayer and asks your own self how could the revolutionaries do this if they did not think the Real Mass, which is a Holy Holocaust, a real and true sacrifice, should be understood to be a meal?

Now, here are a few verses from Baruch 6 which I read today.

Presumably, the revolutionaries Bible readers of Baruch and yet these verses did not give them pause?

[50] For seeing they are but of wood, and laid over with gold, and with silver, it shall be known hereafter that they are false things, by all nations and kings: and it shall be manifest that they are no gods, but the work of men's hands, and that there is no work of God in them.

[51] Whence, therefore, is it known that they are not gods, but the work of men's hands, and no work of God is in them?

In "The Shape of the Liturgy, "Dom Gregory Dix (ppg 46, 47) observes The eucharist when celebrated alone normally began with the offertory - With absolute unanimity the liturgical tradition reproduces these seven actions (...seven - action scheme ...of the Last upper) as four: The offertory; bread and wine are taken and placed on the table together,,,

Others, such as Fr. Jungmann in The Mass of The Roman Rite (Vol. II, page 99) describes the Offertory as These prayers do not pretend to be an anticipation of the canon but rather a suggestion of its various motive.

So, it can not be denied that what the revolutionaries blowed-up was of grave significance whereas the substituted meal prayer is a rebarbative rupture with our Righteous Rite and which seems to be an effort to dissolve into naturalism our understanding of what it is that Jesus is doing in His Holy Holocaust.

The revolutionaries want to propagandise the faithful that The Real Mass/Holy Sacrifice of the Mass/Holy Holocaust is a memorial meal.

Thank you Steven, and Fr.Hunwicke for allowing me to vent.Steven you have hit the nail on the head,Claims of validity about our faith from the point of modern man is modernism. They have no faith, for them grace perfects nothing. But we understand that Christ is grace himself,we belive in ethics based on reason to know God,we belive in devine law and a supernatural order that perfects nature and our supernatural destiny.Reason,Authority, and obedience to faith is our oblagation to christ church.Thank you for the question. what does it mean to be valid? Christ validates,we have a deposit of faith, seven sacrements, ten commendants from the beginning we have had these things, bishops and priest.A valid cannon for the transubstantiation of the bread and wine,an the prayers, these were all present right up till after vatican II.Now some don,t belive trent, don,t belive Pope JohnxxIII,don,t belive the 10 commentants,or the roman canon is valid anymore?.There is a new thing happening.
Steven i can only affirm what Christ taught and what the apostels proclaimed.Trent is valid, vatican I and vatican II are valid, the TF and the NO mass are valid.I am obedient to Christ and his church and the Pope, who i pray for an defend his office so that he may excerise his authority and defend the vality of Christ kingship and his moral and divine law.Waiting for it. THANKS STEVEN.

I never thought that the late, great Michael Davis---who did such splendid, original work on the liturgical revolution and Vatican II---could ever have a worthy successor in the field of liturgical and ecclesiological scholarship. But Professor K. has turned out, indeed, to be such a worthy successor to the incomparable Welshman convert who loved the Church and the Mass so fervently, so fearlessly. Deo gratias!

I long for the day when the whole Church will return to the 1962 Latin Mass and I believe it will happen.
