Surely, it is outrageous that the Belgian regime should outlaw the provision of Kosher and Hallal meat.
I seem to remember that the Polish Bishops' Conference opposed, successfully, the adoption of such a law in Poland. I wonder how long it will take for the generality of people to realise that secular liberalism as promoted by the Zeitgeist will give you tyranny; while a robust Catholicism is more likely to support freedom.
But then, we recall how sensitively the Belgians ran their Empire.
I wonder how aware they are that the claim of one of their ministers, that State law takes precedence over Religious law, aligns them with so many great historical figures, from Nero and Domitian down to Stalin and Hitler.
"Plucky little Belgium", indeed.
Boorish Bully-boy Belgium.

And let us not forget that Africa's Hitler was King Leopold of Belgium.
It is worth noting that this law is also aimed at the indescriminate and widespread killing of sheep "at home" for the Muslim feast. Among other things this produces large amounts of blood and discarded meat on the streets in the areas with large Muslim populations,
It should be noted that this ruling/law is in response to the Muslim custom to slaughter sheep 'at home' on a feast remembering the 'test of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ismael'. One of the practical results of this custom is that in areas with a large Muslim population there is the very 'public problem' of blood, assorted remains of the slaughter, etc. that appears as 'refuse' on the streets. It is only tangentially connected with the 'slaughter' being done in approved 'butchers' -- which is the common situation for Kosher meat.
In So. Flo. there is a yuge big package store, Costco, and they sell only lamb from Australia that has been slaughtered according to Halal rules.
When ABS had a chin wag with them over this and requested they consider buying American Lamb, one of Costco's management team accused ABS of hate and religious intolerance. In America, thanks to the genius of the market, customers are often both wrong and wicked.
Well, BJ's, another Yuge big package store, sells American lamb with is not Halal slaughtered and it is both tenderer and tastier.
And let us not forget their eminent cardinal Danneels....
I would support the banning of all ritually-slaughtered meat, whether kosher or halal, in this country if I had my way. Objections would be seen off by the well-meaning, albeit vigorous, use of state repression...
The Belgians seem more sensitive to animals than to the children they euthanise.
In catholic countries halal and kosher slaughter would be forbidden.
Why?
I always go to an English butcher. You know what you're getting there. I'd never buy meat from infidels with their cruel, disgusting and barbaric slaughter methods, and thus avoid the supermarkets, for other than pork.
I am amazed they outlawed BOTH halal and kosher, and not just kosher.
This does not make sense. If a religion practising human sacrifice, such as has existed in the past, invoked your 'liberal' values to demand that Belgium permit it to kill people, would you support them and claim this as demonstrating the superiority of Catholic values? In truth, this subject is about animal rights and nothing else.
Virgilio di Rosario: One should note that in Belgium there is a law permitting euthanasia for even children. And of course, abortion on demand. Does that fit your thought?
