China and the SSPX

In view of the apparent agreement between the Vatican and the Chinese government, the way would seem wide open for an arrangement whereby the SSPX would choose its own bishops, Rome retaining only a nominal veto which, out of tact and sensitivity, it would never use ...

... or, alternatively, for the SSPX to choose and consecrate its bishops sine mandato Apostolico, with the Vatican automatically 'reconciling' them immediately afterwards.

Naturally, given the Chinese precedents, Rome would make no objection if some of this new generation of SSPX bishops had wives and children.

I almost feel like offering myself for this ministry, but, at 78, am I too old?

Not at all, Father! If celibacy and adherence to Christianity are optional, surely age is no impediment.

An SSPX bishops would be a terrific next career for you. Please pursue it!

You can be a bishop in Old Catholic Church and return to RCC.

And we could all practice the dealth penalty with enthusiasm, without a trial, just like the Chinese government that the Vatican now admires.
One of the Pope’s men, Archbishop Marcelo Sorondo, praised Communist China for coming “closer to Catholic social teaching” than the United States, although there were 23 executions in the United States last year compared with 1,551 in China, more than all other nations combined..

Ratzinger became bishop of Rome at the age of 78, and were it not for the wolves, would still be the Roman Pastor in his nineties.

I don't think that might work. China, barring the island of Formosa or Taiwan, is ruled by a Marxist-Leninist(-Maoist?) one party state turned managerial dictatorship which thinks nothing of forcing the abortion of one child extra. The SSPX have worked since foundation to uphold the Mass of Ages, originally the so-called transitional missal in Econe with earlier uses tolerate but later 1962 only, and have no known revolutionary, Peronist, anti-clerical, homophile or atheistic leanings. None of their auxiliary bishops would opine 'God cannot exist without man' or have a Christ as a sort of proto-Lenin or Che Guevara.

Francis has one rule for his friends (one of whom is abortionist Emma Bonino who is apparently to Francis 'one of Italy's forgotten greats' plus a great many appointees who have caused public scandal), and those not his friends, will suffer a full barrage or legal and extra-legal attack. FrancisBishops have shown no hesitation in using the old unmerciful tactics of excommunication or apostolic visitation (which was originally tried on the then new seminary of the SSPX). Francis can relate to a Communist dictatorship (now relations to be restored with Vietnam) and cannot to Catholics who love the Mass of our ancestors.

Fr. John, after becoming bishop in Old Catholic Church you can declare yourself Pope John XXIV and undo the changes done by Popes from Pius X or before to Francis like change of language from Latin to vernaculars, priest facing the people, suppression of communion rails, pulpits, octaves, vigils, minor orders, subdiaconate, septuagesima, Rogation Days, Ember Days, change of communion fast rule etc. You can restore all former missals, breviaries, pontificals, vestments and so on. Restore communion fast from midnight.

Traditional Catholicism is about much more than just the Holy Mass of Ages.
