Cardinal Marx, about those who stood up to him in the Synod of 2014: "It is incomprehensible how the Synod Fathers are more bound to Tradition than to the Pope".
Looking forward to read the following in 2020: "Cardinal Marx: It is incomprehensible how bishops are more bound to their reform ideas than to Pope Benedict XVII"
Actually, Father. I thought this would be titled: “Essay for today. Discuss.”
So, in that vein… What I find incomprehensible is that any Catholic would be bound to the occupant pro tem of the Chair of Peter over the perennial Tradition of the Church. One is changeable, the other is not.
But I would turn the observation back on the good Cardinal: “Would you have said the same thing a few years ago, Benedict XVI feliciter regnante…?
Max was as always, confused. He should have said 'this' Pope. More of the typical and abundant hypocrisy of Marx et all who steadfastly refused to be with the other Popes of the recent past.
But did he actually say this? It sounds too perfect. Google tells me, via Rorate, that the quote comes from La Stampa, where we're told this statement was overheard by unnamed people.
