Poor old gentleman. "Palmist", indeed!
Does he ever visit "Pie-chiatrists"?
Has he got a Pew-donym"?
Were his electoral adventures monitored by Peff-ologists"?
Hardly any wonder that he has problems understanding the teaching of the Church about "Abortion"? Do you think he knows what "Abortion" is? Or does he confuse the female body with Polish soup?
Betcha, he's never read Wodehouse's Psmith ("the P is silent") books.
God bless, er, America.
Is his pset psarrot infected with Pitta-cosis??
Lock him up.
Here is a comment posted (not by me) on "Fr. Z's Blog" i had the same thought on hearing of the incident - that it might be related to his speech problem
ReplyDelete"While I cannot say for certain it is the cause (I am not a speech therapist), Biden suffers from stuttering and may suffer from mispronouncing certain phonemes, possibly, at the beginning of words, possibly, when fatigued. He has commented:
“I never had professional therapy, but a couple of nuns taught me to put a cadence to my speaking, and that’s why I spent so much time reading poetry – Emerson and Yeats,” Biden wrote. “But even in my small, boys’ prep school, I got nailed in Latin class with the nickname Joe Impedimenta. You get so desperate, you’re so embarrassed.”
I don’t know if that is the case, here, but absent any evidence to the contrary, it is a charitable read of the situation.
Oh, Biden knows well the Church's teaching about abortion.
ReplyDeleteHa-ha! But surely, we should "laugh not at the afflicted"!

ReplyDeleteJoe Biden: “We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women are created, by the... you know... you know the thing.”

The Psalmist white some stuff about the thing
Well, you didn’t like Trump so now you get the idiot Biden. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI saw an article in Notes and Queries a few years ago casting doubt on the veracity of the fabled exchange between Lady Asquith and Jean Harlow over the pronunciation of Margot ('the t is silent in my name, Miss Harlow, as presumably it is in yours'). As the author points out, it would be very out of character.
ReplyDeleteDear Unknown. Hang on... There are not a few men who think the Still-For-A-While-Longer POTUS may still be POTUS in January next year owing to the Council of the Wicked having given The POTUS dictatorial power to the point where Trump could declare an Insurrection (Insurrection Act) and continue to be POTUS and he will justify his invoking of that act by saying the 71 million who voted for him were disenfranchised by the obvious voter fraud in the election (a practice as old as the republic itself).
ReplyDeleteABS is hoping this will happen as part of The Social Compact Theory.
The Social Compact Theory was a curious theory seized upon by the libertines and wealthy lunatics who led the secession of the original English colonies in America from the English Monarchy.
Anchored in the Christ-denying days of the putative Enlightenment, the theory purported to justify the control of wealthy weirdoes over the masses - as though the masses assented to this creepy control.
The tendentious theory supposedly explains that political man is constrained to obey the unjust laws arrived at by fools and mountebanks even though the purpose of those laws are, let's be frank, to take money from the productive to be used by the profligate-lay-about-ne'er-do-well-busy-bodies Yankees who, rightly, suspected there were real men living happy and full lives outside of Washington and who were laughing a little too loudly without permission.
ABS does subscribe to a limited form of The Social Compact Theory, corrected by reality.
The Council of the Wicked assembled in Washington is so puissant and perverted that no man in his right man thinks he can remain unaffected by its unlimited reach and matchless stupidity and so all he asks for is that The Council of the Wicked (COWs) exists in such a way that it provides the real men with opportunities for a laugh as the COWs lead us to utter destruction.
Thus, Trump and Biden.
If the unwashed masses tolerated Two Corinthians then they can abide with a Palmist. The man stutters. At least he reads. Have you ever sat at Mass and heard the reading on Pentecost? The list of all the places pilgrims came from to Jerusalem? Mispronounced year after year by lectors? Or ever heard a reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Philippines? Let it be.
ReplyDeleteExactly, Unknown! And now we get not just Biden, but the gaggle of anti-Christian forces behind him which will be unleashed mercilessly on all of us---and in the brave new world of globalist hegemony that includes those living beyond American shores, so do not get too comfortable. Oh, but the Donald had such abrasive manners and was rude to some women (who fully deserved what they got from him, by the way) and was Putin's puppet and did not want open borders for all and sundry to come to American shores while violating our laws and did not support foreign trade that worked against the American worker and did not bow down in deep adoration at the altar of climate change alarmist propaganda and SPOKE A FEW UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTHS that we, oh so civilized, cannot bear to hear lest they harm our delicate ears. So, yes, Unknown, your are right: let us all enjoy, that "something wicked [that] our way comes." (Pardon me, perhaps I overdid the polyptoton).
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments, 'Jhayes' and Ignatius. It is good for those of us who frequent these pages to be reminded that we should not laugh at "the afflicted" and that we should seek to read situations in a charitable way.
ReplyDeleteI have two questions. The first is for theologians. Is condescending mockery a sin against Christian charity? The second question is for citizens of the USA. Would you rather have a president with a speech impediment or a president with a truth impediment?

Who is gong to be the face of America the beautiful; The exceptional nation?
ReplyDeleteWho cares. It doesn't matter if it is Reagan, Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump or Biden because America will still be doing things like this in our name.
From one of America's lead attractive Secretaries of State ever, the limaceous lunatic, Madeline Albright, comes one definition of the putative exceptional nation, America; If we have to use force, it is because we are America; we are the indispensable nation. We stand tall and we see further than other countries into the future, and we see the danger here to all of us.
But that description of America really only means it is a tall nation, not an exceptional one.
ABS thinks it is certain actions undertaken by America that make it exceptional, that make it different from, say, a normal nation.
Consider - Iran Air Flight 655, a commercial airliner shot down by the U.S. military by "mistake" on July 3, 1988, killing all 290 civilians and crew on board, including 66 children.
Now, most normal nations would experience shame, admit the crime and offer a public apology at, say, The United Nations.
But, America is an exceptional nation, not a normal nation, and so this happened about two years later.
2 VINCENNES OFFICERS GET MEDALS
By Molly Moore
April 23, 1990
The Navy has awarded special commendation medals for "meritorious service" to two of the top officers who were serving on the USS Vincennes at the time the cruiser shot down an Iranian airliner over the Persian Gulf with 290 people aboard.
The citations for the special commendations to former Vincennes skipper Capt. Will Rogers III and Lt. Cmdr. Scott E. Lustig, who was the ship's weapons and combat systems officer, do not mention the downing of the aircraft on July 3, 1988, an error that took the lives of the plane's passengers and crew.
(No, it was not an error. It was a war crime. All onboard were awarded ribbons too)
The medals were awarded to the two men early last year.
Instead, the Navy citation to Rogers states, "The president of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit" -- the armed forces' second highest peacetime award -- "for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service as commanding officer . . . from April 1987 to May 1989."
This is the sort of action descriptive of an Exceptional Nation, a nation that gives awards to mass murderers of defenseless civilians and claims the indefensible crime had merit worthy of awards.
THAT is an exceptional nation.

Dear Terry Loane, I am puzzled by "a president with a speech impediment or a president with a truth impediment" since neither seems to apply to Trump and both apply to Biden. While Mr. Trump is prone to exaggeration, I don't recall him telling an outright lie, and while he is no Lincoln or Churchill, his speech seems intelligible enough.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately the media gaslighting of Trump and his supporters has reinforced what was said about the Nazi propaganda machine, that if you repeat a lie often enough people will believe it to be true. Regrettably many Catholics (especially bishops) were taken in by this and are basically responsible for (assuming the election fraud investigations do not bear fruit) electing what is probably the most anti Christian government we have ever had upon these shores.
Right on target, John Patrick. Furthermore, it is Mr. Biden who is a proven, consummate liar long mired in corruption---as his shady procurements for his wayward son Hunter strongly indicate. If Biden has (or had) a speech impediment is not as evident as the dementia from which he apparently suffers. The real sin here does not lie in mockery of the infirm but in thrusting on 335 million Americans a "leader" who is clearly unable to lead or even speak coherently---not exactly a "speech impediment." Moreover, the real sins are the collaboration, through voting or justification, with the on-going slaughter of the innocents in the womb that a Biden presidency certainly assures as well as participation in the ceaseless calumnies of the neo-Marxist media against a president whose chief "fault" is, in their perverse view, refusal to cooperate with the enslavement of countless multitudes around the globe by a criminal cabal of soulless globalists "whose god is their belly."
ReplyDeleteThank you for your response, John, but I wonder if you read my comment with the care with which I sought to write it. I was not accusing any named individual of "telling an outright lie". In fact I quite deliberately named no names and I quite deliberately made no accusations. My question was about the sort of personal traits that one might wish to see in a president (or by implication any other politician). Of course having a problem with truth does not just manifest itself in outright lies. Being "prone to exaggeration" (to use your words) or suffering from psychosis are other examples of "truth impediment".
ReplyDeleteYou refer to the "Nazi propaganda machine", and that made me think of what Adolf Hitler wrote in Mein Kampf about "Die große Lüge". This is just one example of a powerful person reinforcing their power by complaining strongly that others are being fraudulent while they themselves are the real deceivers, hoodwinking their followers on a massive scale. (Another obvious example of this is Marcial Maciel, the founder of the Catholic Church's Legion of Christ – he certainly had a truth impediment in every sense of the term.)

And the calumny against President Trump is restated without a shred of evidence of actual lies or exaggerations that amount to lies (as some but not all do, as it is not unusual to exaggerate for effect or humor, for example) or an actual diagnosis of psychosis: an irrational animus is enough justification to continue the actual lying against this president---a president who has been a friend to Christians and to the unborn. And, one question: if he should be indeed clinically psychotic, would it not be uncharitable to "accuse the afflicted"? Or does that "charity" towards the afflicted operate in selectively convenient cases? Of course, the old liberal ruse is at work here: what promotes the leftist, liberal cause is exempt from any and all scrutiny by history, logic or facts; what is useful to attack those they detest (traditional Christians or conservatives, for example) is ipso facto legitimate, justified, and "noble". And should anyone have the manliness to talk back or unmask their abuse, there is always the use of sentimentalized, phony charity to silence opponents Talk about real psychosis---no wonder Dr. Michael Savage has insightfully noted that liberalism is a kind of mental illness.
ReplyDeleteYou and I are in agreement, "coradcorloquitur", at least on this one thing – calumny is to be avoided. And you will note that in my earlier comments in this thread I named no names and made no accusations. Therefore there can be no calumny. If anyone were to read my comments and imagine that I were talking about a particular US president, past, present or future, that would be a reflection of their assumptions, not mine.
ReplyDelete(I did mention one name in an earlier comment, Marcial Maciel, but what I said about him could not be regarded as calumny - as defined in #2477 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church - since there can be no question at this time of "unjust injury" to Maciel's reputation.)
