Fr Zed has made available that section of the popeinterviewbook ... whatever that is in agglutinative German ... which deals with Judaism and the new EF Good Friday Prayer.
By a happy coincidence, if there are such things under Providence as coincidences, I touched upon this precise question of Jewish Salvation a day or two ago in a post about the Mass for the Sunday Next before Advent. The post is titled 'Stir up Sunday'.
I am extremely gratified to find that Professor Ratzinger's views and mine are precisely coincident. As they are about the condoms business.
Some usually commendable blogs have been less than totally supportive of the Holy Father recently. I am not quite sure whether the last bit of Fr Zed's piece about the Good Friday Prayer is or is not supposed to be supportive.
If you want to understand what the Sovereign Pontiff is getting at, try Anglican Patrimonial sources.
Yes Father, the reactions on some otherwise sound blogs have been somewhat disconcerting. We had a similar taste of this after the Regensburg address and the Williamson affair. “The Pope’s not media-savvy”, “Why didn’t someone warn/stop him?”, “Where are his advisors?” etc. etc.
ReplyDeleteNow while I think the Holy Father does not always get the support he should expect from some of the people closest to him, I am still of the opinion that he knows exactly what he is doing and saying. As he has done with his books on Jesus, he always prefaces what he is saying by noting that he is not speaking ex cathedra and that people are free to disagree with him. He may not have the media presence of a John Paul II (and I happen to think that’s not at all bad…), but he is no fool and is certainly not dumb. I fully expect the current kerfuffle to lead to more enlightenment.
Now as to l’Osservatore Romano and editor Gian Maria Vian, well that’s a whole ‘nother issue.
Here you go with Ultramontanism: your morals, your liturgy, your faith, your salvation hang upon the words of the Servant of the servants of God, of the Vicar of Saint Peter. And this will not stop here- and its not clear what degree of magisterial authority these words are held to bear.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it possible to have a papacy as the custodian of tradition, untainted by questionable, contrived, jesuitical fanaticism.
Look at the quandary in which they put themselves. And they'll be splitting hair.
I object strongly to this ignorant and offensive diatribe. By referring to Professor Ratzinger I, made it clear that I was referring to him as a private theologian. Furthermore, I expressed pleasure that he agreed with me. I feel inclined, in future, to delete mere aggressive rants from my blog.
ReplyDeletePatrimony:
ReplyDeleteO MERCIFUL God, who hast made all men, and hatest nothing that thou hast made, nor wouldest the death of a sinner, but rather that he should be converted and live; Have mercy upon all Jews, Turks, Infidels, and Hereticks, and take from them all ignorance, hardness of heart, and contempt of thy Word; and so fetch them home, blessed Lord, to thy flock, that they may be saved among the remnant of the true Israelites, and be made one fold under one shepherd, Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.
