My knee-jerk reaction when reading the news was annoyance at "another" of Pope Francis's bulldozing what came before him. But then I read again. This is indeed a work of mercy for Fr. Cardenal.
Did angels weep and demons rejoice when priesthood of Theodore McCarrick was lost? Will you thank God if Francis restores priestly and episcopal faculties to Theodore McCarrick?
Dear Ms Voice. Of course they did. Can you not see what a triumph McCarrick is of the Powers Below? What a horrible example he is of what happens when a corrupt and arrogant man shuts himself off from all offers of the Grace of God? How successful the Enemy has been? In as far as fallen Angels can know true joy, they must have it now. It is absolutely horrible.
Having been in Nicaragua in 1987 when Cardenal lived in a lovely hilltop house that before the revolution was owned by a family who had worked to earn the luxury and also seeing the chaos and hearing the worry and fears of people of commerce and with property at risk, I don't understand why any tears would be shed upon the death of Cardenal or any other Sandinista. Father, please explain the sympathy you express for this bad man with of evil comrades.
Why any sympathy for Cardenal? I was in Nicaragua in 1987 and learned of his hilltop luxury in a home that before the revolution had belonged to people who had earned the privilege of living there. I saw the chaos in the streets, the Marxist billboards, and I heard the concerns of both middle-class friends and upper class people with whom I had interesting and long conversations.
Spare from our sight, Father, any sighs and tears for this bad man and his evil work in Sandinista Nicaragua.

The Office of the priesthood is a weight, a burden, a cross intended for the sanctification and salvation of others. When the Church removes this Office due to grave abuse by the individual, it is a punishment for the salvation of the individual and angels do weep at this loss. However, it is also a mercy, because the removal of the Office removes also the obligations and responsibilities of the Office -- the individual can sin no more against the Office and condemn himself all the more so.
The restoration of the Office is indeed great rejoicing for again the individual might take up the cross which has been removed from him. But this also restores the burden and restores the individual's ability to again sin against his Office and condemn himself all the more so.
Yes, if it is thought about, the restoration of the cross must be a thing to rejoice over. A man has been given back his cross. Rejoice!
But, it is also something to be terrified of for the priesthood is not a trinket or a trifle to be toyed with, to score political points with. I do pray that this does not lead Fr. Cardenal into temptation and to repeat the offenses of his past.
There is evidence that Ernesto Cardenal did not regret Marxism or his apostasy. He himself has said that he wants 'a new church, a new god and a new world', and that Marxism and Christianity are the same for him. What we are seeing here is that Bergoglio has allowed a Marxist to receive communion in a sacrilegious manner and has returned the apostate to the priesthood without having repented or previously asked for forgiveness. That was an arbitrary decision of Bergoglio himself that the marxist Ernesto Cardenal says he accepts with benevolence. This is a sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit as it is a sin of final impenitence and stubbornness in his sin.Bergoglio instead of seeking his repentance confirm him in his obstinacy.
Leaving a sinner in their sins is the opposite of the power of the Gospel of Christ. The Gospel drives a sinner to their knees. Face plant. Tears. Nothing less will do. God wants total conversion. False conversion does not fool God.
To me, “fear and trembling” includes not knowing my inner state as God knows me. I will never be satisfied and at peace until my final confession.
And the Marxification of the Church continues apace with hardly any resistance and now applause for the rehabilitation of an unrepentant apostate. You have to hand it to Bergoglio: he knows exactly that demoralization of the Faithful is a needed step in the destruction of the Church---and he knows how to do it well.

Thank you, kind pastor.
Well said father.
Did he repent first, and is he reconciled?
If not, there is no reason to rejoice.
Outer appearances to not matter compared to the true inner condition.
False grace, false forgiveness, is one of the most dangerous current conditions afflicting the Church.
It seems a pointless gesture, almost approval for his Marxism. The usual selective Mercy.

I hope you are joking, pater reverende.

I am Mr. Not Ms.
