Fatima, Apostasy and the Tail of the Devil

In 1977, Blessed Paul VI, on the sixtieth anniversary of the last Fatima Apparition, said this: "The tail of the Devil is functioning in the disintegration of the Catholic world. The darkness of Satan has entered and spread throughout the Catholic Church, even to its summit. Apostasy, the loss of the Faith, is spreading throughout the world and into the highest levels within the Church".

I know some of you chaps out there sometimes feel a bit dubious about Blessed Papa Montini, but, really, faced with words of such prophetic discernment, how can you maintain your reservations? Come on!

By the way: have you yet read Cardinal Burke's very fine Buckfast Address on ...  Apostasy? If not, you jolly well ought to get on with it ...

Apostasy is a word we ought to be more willing to do business with. The beginning of the Catholic Revival in the Church of England is commonly dated to 1833, when  blessed John Keble preached a sermon on "National Apostasy"! Very Patrimonial! Immensely Prophetic!

I have never seen that quote before. Is it possible to tell us the source, I respectfully ask.

“We are now standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has gone through. I do not think that wide circles of American society or wide circles of the Christian community realize this fully. We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the anti-Church, of the Gospel versus the anti-Gospel.

“We must be prepared to undergo great trials in the not-too-distant future; trials that will require us to be ready to give up even our lives, and a total gift of self to Christ and for Christ.

Through your prayers and mine, it is possible to alleviate this tribulation, but it is no longer possible to avert it. . . .How many times has the renewal of the Church been brought about in blood! It will not be different this time.”

– 1976 Bicentennial address given in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by the future St. John Paul II, then-Cardinal Karol Wojtyla

Many of us are more than dubious (that's still an understatement) concerning Paul VI because he was the first obviously 'progressive' pope. He was a weak man who embraced Modernism and was very irresponsible during his pontificate. Examples are failing to read liturgical documents and those of the council but signing off on them only to discover the problems with them later. We all know the story about Paul VI's reaction to his inadvertent abolition of the Pentecost Octave. A similar incident occurred when His Holiness approved Lumen Gentium (teaching the error of Collegiality) without reading it properly and so simply added a preliminary note to try and control the damage. This note was then relegated to a footnote by scheming individuals in the published documents. Then there is Paul VI's appalling treatment of Archbishop Lefebvre, his making speeches at the UN (an evil organisation, then as now) promoting it as the means through which peace in the world would be achieved rather than the means provided us by Our Lady, his failure to consecrate Russia to the Immaculate Heart, and, of course, his creating the New Mass. It also seems to me that the phenomenon of the celebrity Pope began with Paul VI, although it was continued by John Paul II. While Paul VI may have been a well-meaning man, his pontificate was disastrous. His admitting that we are and were in deep trouble *whilst doing nothing about it* is not going to change my opinion of him.

@ Augustine Pinnock,

@Father PJM,

The quote was from Pope Paul VI, Oct. 13, 1977 with his words reported in the Italian paper 'Corriere della Sera', on Page 7 of its issue dated October 14, 1977.

With all respect, but he was at least, a witness of such status. Therefore, it was not a prophecy... That was only a claim. And as Augustin Pinnock above already mentioned, many things which with certainty can be attributed to him, I'll say don't forget the so-called horrible "New Hollands Catechism" too (at the end of '60th).
An as Augustin said: "His admitting that we are and were in deep trouble *whilst doing nothing about it...", - This exactly is for me too a very big problem when I'm trying to think positively...
This sounds like some kind of story about some king and his kingdom, who gives some news paper a interview about the big nasty enemy army, who has (already) entered his kingdom, but the king himself is continuously doing his 'daily kingly things' as before. Whatever that might means.

He should know, since he was a major player in causing this disaster we are in now.
