News

I have just heard that the Holy Father has signed the Dispensation from Celibacy, which means that, Deo Volente, I shall take part in the Deaconing Service on May 26, 10.00 in Westminster Cathedral. There is no time arranged yet for the Priesting.

I am extremely grateful to the very many dear friends, both those I have met in the flesh and those with whom I have communicated over the airwaves, people all over the world, who have kept me in their prayers and assured me constantly of their affection and esteem.

Father, I am overjoyed. Honestly I must admit that I was tempted to get angry during the past year over what I perceived as an injustice, but seeing your Christlike patience and obedience, I knew that trusting in the Lord and praying was a much better choice. May you have many years of fruitful ministry ahead! And I hope that those of us living quite far from Oxford can once again enjoy your wit and erudition online!

Dear Fr H.,

Being now in Rome, I will put in a good word for you with St Philip Neri, whose mortal remains I am about visit at the Chiesa Nuova.

Again, every blessing to you; and it is most providential, surely, that you'll be deaconed on St Philip's day; I can imagine him with Newman at his side (and Faber too, if he's out of purgatory yet), looking down from their vantage point so near to Almighty God, and being pleased to intercede for you, especially as having borne up manfully under the past year's humiliations.
