Collared

... the pictures of the solemn requiem from S Mary Magdalene's Brighton ... the picture of the singing of the Gospel, with Dr Reid (who at long last seems to be functioning as a deacon again) ... the server holding the book ... his face seems vaguely familiar ... I'm sure I'll place him if I think for long enough .... no, don't tell me ....but what is that collar he's wearing? It looks vaguely but not quite Oratorian; but the cotta is wrong ...

I think you taught him Latin, therefore his is much, much better than mine.
The collar; he is Brother of the Little Oratory.

Why hasn't Dr Reid been ordained a priest? One sees him popping up as a deacon at a number of EF Masses. I have a Monastic Diurnal from Farnborough for which a Dom Alcuin Reid penned the Introduction - is this the same person? Is this the same Alcuin who on the New Liturgical Movement website on the 20/10/2009 commented, regarding the Apostolic Constitution for Anglicans, that 'a lot of "catholic-minded" Anglicans have a very dubious morality'? Stones and glass houses, eh?

This blog has been attracting some very strange and nasty comments recently.

The late unlamented Archbishop of Melbourne, Sir Francis (Do-) Little, a notorious liberal, refused to ordain Dr Reid to the priesthood, despite having ordained him a deacon. Priests in the Archdiocese pressed Reid to appeal this flagrantly uncanonical decision - for no reason was ever alleged against him; it was pure spite - but Rev Mr Reid went to England instead, shaking the dust off his feet...

Joshua you are misinformed.Scott Reid was refused ordination for good reasons. He went to the UK and reinvented himself even keeping Alcuin AFTER being refused solemn vows at Farnborough. It has nothing to do with his beliefs.Pray for him and pray for his vocation. He knows the truth of it.What matters is his salvation. God's Grace is there for him and all of us.

I merely repeated what I was told by reputable priests and laymen.
